International workshop on fertility and family

Barbara Ana Revuelta Eugercios, CoRe and BioHistory Group, participates in the organization and will present research from her current project in an international workshop in
Guimarães, Portugal, jointly organized by  Associación de Demografia Histórica and Universidade do Minho (Guimarães), 5-6 February, 2015.

The workshop will focus on fertility and family: birth control, the major silent revolution experienced in the 20th century, is reflected in all the state and family structures, public and private, which surround us. Even if form an optimistic perspective we may think that there will be a short-term reversal of the current behaviour, it is clear that the next generations will necessarily be involved in the reduction in the number of births.

Issues of fertility and family trends are gaining a special interest in our time and they are becoming a main interest for social scientists, no matter if they are demographers, historians, anthropologists, sociologists and doctors. This workshop aims at fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on the development of fertility behaviours and its implications for family structures.
